The knife making bug got to me in 1995 after I received a knife made by a former classmate of mine(the late Conrad Pienaar of Bloemfontein). This inspired me to attend a demonstration by Owen Wood and then I really got started.Being in a very busy rural Veterinary Practice the time was very limited. After I retired I started spending much more time in the workshop making knives.
In 2013 I won the Knife Makers Guild Competition for non guild members. This stimulated me to go for Guild membership which I got in 2014
Knife making to me is a hobby and I try to make every knife something special.I design my own knives.Every one must be fully functional and usable with something special added to make it unique.I prefer making a finer type of fixed blade knife.
I use high quality stainless steel like 12C27 or N690 and Damascus steel for the blade end sometimes for the bolster or pommel.Great variety of handle materials like stabilized hardwoods, horn, warthog tusk, bone and combinations of these materials. To add something special I use Titanium inlays, variety of pinning materials, liners and mosaic pins.
