George Baartman
I am a teacher at Warmbaths Senior High and is a part time maker. I love the outdoors and have a passion for fly fishing, hunting and 4x4 wheel driving. During 2002 I moved to my own game farm in the picturesque Waterberg mountains in the bushveld of South Africa.

I've always had an interest in metal work and made my first knife, a fixed blade in 1972. I've been encouraged by this attempt and started making better knives.

During 1993, the year which I was admitted to the Knife Makers Guild of Southern Africa, I started making folders which became my speciality. I specialize in pattern file work on liners and only use ATS 34, damasteel and occasionly carbon steel damascus.

In 2000 I won the first prize in the Gentleman's Folding Knife category at the Durban Easter Show. In the same year, I won a second prize in the Folding Knife category during the annual KGSA show at Gold Reef City. In 2003 at the Durban Easter Knife Show I was awarded "Best Art Knife" on show and won a second prize for the working folder category. Articles and photos of my knives have been published in Man Magnum.

My goal in knife-making is to improve on my standard and techniques used and try to add more new knife designs each year.
