Profile: Rausch Engineering

Derek Rausch qualified as an Instrument Maker through the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. Once qualified, he established Rausch Engineering in October 1983.

Derek completed a knife making course with Owen Wood in 1993 and became a member of The Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa in 1994. He soon realized there was a need for a knife making supplies shop as there was no one single place to purchase all the items required to produce a knife. So, together with Owen he established the first knifemaking supplies shop in South Africa and thus Inyati Knifemaking Supplies was established. Inyati “Yaks” were held regularly, providing a forum for knifemakers to meet and share knowledge regarding knife making.

Derek’s training lended itself to the manufacture of various quality components and tooling such as belt sanders and contact wheels, required in the industry. Derek designs and manufactures items such as pivots screws, drilling and tapping gigs, interscrews and thumb studs.

Rausch Engineering is a distributor for many of the major companies in South Africa. We offer industrial abrasives from 3M and Klingspor (and other brands on request). As well as being distributors for many of the tooling companies such Tork Craft, Toolquip and Allied and Makita power tools.
